"...then
there are those stories which refuse to play by the rules and could
send you round the bend if you let them. They often start innocently
enough, but with one hand pressed firmly on your back and the other
shining a torch into the most obscure crevices of human nature, they
leave you feeling decidedly stranger than you did before discovering
them"
- Gareth Nicholls, Creative Director
Little Earthquake is setting out to unearth curious stories, no
matter where they may be hiding. They could be in dusty old books,
in ancient myths and half-forgotten folklore, or based on facts which
are stranger than fiction. Wherever we find them, the development
of each production is determined by the dictates of these stories
rather than any imposed company agenda. Close collaboration between
company members and the active involvement of our audiences are central
to that process. Within that, though, there's no fixed way of working,
and we try to keep an open mind about where our research and exploration
will lead us. It's as much of a surprise for us when we're working
on the production as it will hopefully be for the audiences when they're
watching it.
Founded in 2005 and based in Birmingham, England, the company has
just finished a regional tour of The
Haunting. Their brand new production, The Houdini Exposure,
will premiere at the Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton on Friday 30th
and Saturday 31st October 2009.
