Q:- Why is the company called Little Earthquake?

Credit for the name has to go to Philip, who has a Tori Amos album of a similar name in his CD collection. It was specifically chosen, though, because a little earthquake has a special place in the chain of events which led to the company being formed...

Gareth first visited Birmingham (where the company is based) on 23rd September 2002 to begin rehearsals of a play. On his very first night, he was woken at 12:35am by an earthquake rattling his bed. The first recorded in that area for years, the quake registered 4.8 on the Richter scale - so it wasn't so little; a newspaper in County Wicklow, Ireland, reported that its reverberations had even been felt there. Late night radio chat show hosts from the BBC even laughed at listeners' claims that there had been an earthquake when they phoned their local stations to report the incident.

The name also links in some way to the kind of work we're interested in producing. We're intrigued by those moments in life that make you see things in a new way, or cause you to take stock of the things you've been taking for granted. That earthquake in Birmingham knocked a framed photograph off the wall in Gareth's bedroom and the next morning his landlady realised that she hadn't really looked at it properly for years.

Q:- How do you choose your projects?

They tend to choose themselves. While creating and developing one project, it's interesting how certain themes or ideas begin to emerge and point to other stories waiting to be explored. It's like one big game of six-degrees-of-separation. Answers on a postcard if you can spot the links.
